IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

2008 - 2009

 

  1. Implement a dynamic organizational and financial structure that enhances the ability of the Chapter to move the profession forward.

     a. Review and update bylaws and policy and procedures manual.

         (1). Maintain affiliation agreement with AAOHN and other pertinent 

                organizations. (Board of Directors)

         (2)  Renew affiliate agreement with NCNA annually. (Board of Directors)

     b. Develop a strategic plan to reflect the needs of NCAOHN and its members.

               (1) Develop an annual Implementation Plan. (Board of Directors)

               (2) Provide chapter leadership with a developmental initiative during summer   

      Board meeting annually. (Education and Professional Standards, Board of  

      Directors)

     c. Prepare an annual budget.

              (1)  Continue to monitor investment strategy for short-term and long-term

                     investments. (Finance Committee)

           d. Maintain paid staff for educational program planning. 

              (1)  Continue position of Education Director. (Board of Directors)

        

  1. Enhance communication networks.

a. Enhance internal communications to provide members with up-dates on 

    practice and governmental affairs issues.

                     (1) Maintain, market and evaluate NCAOHN website. (Webmaster, 

                    Communications)

                     (2) Monitor the effectiveness of on-line distribution of the newsletter.

                          (Webmaster; Communications)

               (3) Local Chapters assume responsibility for keeping members’ information, 

             including e-mail address, current in AAOHN data base. (Local Presidents,

   b. Enhance external communications to market the value and contributions of 

               occupational and environmental health nurses.

              (1) Expand partnerships with various business/health care/community 

                   organizations. (Board of Directors)

(b)   New companies and companies whose OHN is not a NCAOHN member. (State and Local Membership Development and Support)

              (3) Market Occupational Health Nursing to colleges, and high schools via local

              (4) Recruit for and maintain a web-based Speakers Bureau roster for education, 

                   public relations, and marketing opportunities for OH Nursing. (Education and 

                   Professional Standards, Membership Development and Support)

           c. Correlate all activity of NCAOHN to member needs and report in that way to 

               the membership at each business meeting. (President; Committee Chairs)

 

       3.  Maintain membership.

a. Provide developmental opportunities for members to become leaders in the  

                      Association.

               (1)  Maintain informal mentoring within the Chapters.

               (2) Develop and implement a formal Leadership Development Program.

(a)    Utilize information and training from the CLA to provide an Association 

      up-date at the State Conference. (State Representative(s) to CLA,

                   c. Promote benefits of membership to targeted groups of nurses.

 (1) Identify OHN’s in state who are not members of NCAOHN. (NCAOHN, Membership Development and Support)

             d. Recognize members for excellence in occupational and environmental health.

                (1) Nominate members for state and national awards (Awards)

                (2) Nominate candidates from NCAOHN for AAOHN Fellowship in 2008 for

  1. Implement strategies to prepare members for practice in the evolving health 

      care and business/industry systems.

      a. Continue opportunities and financial assistance for professional educational development.

        (1) Plan two state conferences each year based on results from the needs and

              satisfaction surveys as well as evaluation comments.  Plan the nurses section

              in the NC State Safety Conference each year. (Education and Professional

                    Standards, Scholarship and Loan, Board of Directors)

(2) Design pertinent topics that improve OHN practice and professional  development, and impact the health and safety of our clients as well as the bottom line of our employers. (Education and Professional Standards)

(3) Market the state conference locations and dates at least six months in advance.

            (4) Post the State conferences on the NCAOHN Website. (Education and

  1. Expand the knowledge base in occupational and environmental health 

      nursing.

      a. Encourage members to share best practices in occupational and environmental  

          health nursing issues.

               (1) Continue to provide and publicize research grants and scholarships.

 (3) Recognize poster exhibitions at the business meetings. (Research, Awards,

(4) Encourage members to contribute best practices for newsletters (Communications)

Explore opportunities to link students with occupational sites for research.

Encourage advanced certification through educational opportunities.

(1) Provide brochures and web resources (Education and Professional Standards, Board)

(2) Recognize newly certified members at meetings. (Awards)

 

  1. Influence legislation, regulations, and policies that affect the practice of  

            occupational and environmental health and safety.

     a. Identify and monitor legislative and regulatory priorities.

               (1) Monitor and influence issues from the Industrial Commission.  

                    (Governmental Affairs) 

               (2) Monitor and influence rules and regulations by the state Board of Nursing.

                (3) Monitor and influence actions by other State or Federal agencies or

(4) Participate in the AAOHN State Legislative Coordinator Program and  

                    governmental affairs educational initiatives. (Governmental Affairs)

      b. Disseminate to membership critical legislative, regulatory and policy issues  

          requiring action by the Association.

                (1) Communicate critical legislative/regulatory issues to the members through 

                      the Governmental Affairs Committee, newsletter, website, electronic mail    

                      and other vehicles. (Governmental Affairs, Communications, Webmaster)

             c. Foster member involvement in legislative and regulatory issues.

                     (1) Disseminate to membership the website access for all legislative 

                           information, including directories, for use in lobbying Legislators on issues 

                           critical to OHN Practice.  (Governmental Affairs, Webmaster) 

      (2) Prepare strategy for member involvement in legislative opportunities as
