Full-Time Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner

Quadrant Health Strategies is a dynamic and rapidly growing health services company based in the state of Massachusetts.  We are actively recruiting for a nurse practitioner to join our team for our Wilson, North Carolina location.

The position involves a range of occupational health duties including pre-placement physicals and drug screening, workers compensation injury and illness management, medical surveillance, wellness and health promotion, travel medicine and episodic urgent care.

The successful applicant must have at least 2-5 years of clinical and occupational health experience. Applicant must be licensed in the state of  North Carolina. Certification in Occupational Health Nursing is a plus, but NOT required. Prior experience with electronic medical records is desired. Training in other fields of specialization, including Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, Case Management or Emergency Medicine is a plus. The candidate must also have excellent interpersonal skills and be dedicated to outstanding customer service.

Position Description

Position Long Description Administers employee health program for Wake County Human Services employees. Assures compliance with infection control protocol, develops related policies and procedures, screens employees for targeted health needs that are required by position or by law, including TB, and assures appropriate immunizations are provided. Provides follow-up on worker's compensation injuries and blood-borne pathogen exposures. Works across all county departments and with other public entities in Wake County.

NOTE: A criminal background investigation will be conducted.

A valid driver's license and a "safe" driving record is required.

Minimum Requirements:  Bachelor's degree in Nursing and two years of experience as a nurse; or equivalent. Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse as issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

The Registered Nurse directs and coordinates employee wellness, treats and coordinates care of injured/ill employee, prepares necessary forms for OSHA recordkeeping and Workers’ Compensation, assists with case management of major disease states and supports the overall company health and wellness strategies. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

o   Schedules and conducts post-offer nursing assessments on new employees

§  this assessment will be maintained in the clinic and shall be inclusive of all interactions between the nurse and employee

o   Manages occupational illnesses and injuries which are work related or which could affect the performance of the related job

§  Assesses, evaluates and makes recommendations of the injury or illness:

·         Provides first aid or treatment per standing doctor’s order

·         Makes appropriate referral for medical treatment

·         Processes necessary forms

·         Documents appropriate to the specific incident

·         Makes necessary corrective recommendations to prevent recurrence of incidents

§  Provides counseling regarding the impact of the incident toward the individual as it relates to personal, self, family, and/or job performance; responsible for the referral to outside sources, which will benefit and improve the quality of life circumstance, which have been directly affected by the incident

§  Monitors follow-up care for the course of the treatment until completion; may remove sutures, visit hospital, and conduct follow-up phone calls; the follow-up care must be maintained within the scope of the Nurse practice Act/Rehab Rules

o   Supports Workers’ Compensation

      • responsible for notifying the workers’ compensation carrier of the claim
      • keeps a record of all pertinent information regarding the claim  
      • when necessary, coordinates care of the claim with a professional nurse case manager

o   Conducts Return to Work Evaluations

      • responsible for the assessment and release of employees who have been out of work per the company’s return to work policy
      • notifies the appropriate member of management and HR personnel of employee’s return to work status

o   Responsible for the recording and reporting of all OSHA recordable cases:

§   these logs must be maintained in accordance with the OSHA standards

§  reports recordable incidents to the appropriate company personnel

§  responsible for reporting changes within the OSHA recordkeeping standards, which affect the company’s performance and current policies

§  is an active leader in implementing necessary changes to maintain compliance

o   Responsible for maintaining and implementing the Hearing Conservation Program including the following:

§  Performs make-up hearing tests and STS retests as needed

§  Schedules calibration of audiogram and hearing booth

§  Posts surveys in required area along with Hearing Conservation Standard

§  Sends audiograms into OTG for review and counsel employees as needed

o   Responsible for assisting with Disease Management Program including the following:

      • Performs lab work as ordered by the Nurse Practitioner
      • Performs follow-up appointments after procedures/treatment by the Nurse Practitioner
      • Assists the Nurse Practitioner with performing quarterly assessments to manage the health of employees in certain disease states.
      • Performs assessments and education for employees in Healthy Eating Program
      • Schedules referrals and diagnostic testing as ordered by the Nurse Practitioner
      • Provides case management for all employees in the Disease Management Program

o   Maintains and orders the clinic supplies that are needed for the functions of the clinic; maintains and distributes appropriate medical supplies to each location when requested

o   Active in the safety of the employees; attends necessary safety meetings in plants

o   Responsible in assisting associates to obtain Prescription Safety Eye Protection in accordance with company policy/OSHA; set ups safety glass clinics as needed at locations

o   Attends regular meetings with the medical director for updates and continuity of care of associates

o   Supports Wellness Program

§  works in conjunction with the wellness coordinator in all aspects of the program as necessary

§   responsible for developing and conducting Wellness on-sites, creating quizzes, and performing BMI/BFI checks

o   Submits articles/health documents when requested for company newsletters

o   Is encouraged to participate in the local and state chapter of the Occupational Health Nurses Association; this serves as a means of continuing education as it applies to Occupational Health Nursing duties
